Chapter History

Delta Omicron Sigma Columbus Alumnae Chapter was founded on July 20, 1975 in Columbus, Ohio by eight magnificent women:

Soror Cheryl Copeland Soror Goldean Gibbs Soror Wilma Hall Soror Barbara Lundy
Soror Bessie McGhee Soror Mable Mixon Soror Marcia Shepherd Soror Cynthia Winchester

These eight women wanted to make a difference in Columbus through community service and education. Today we are still focusing on community service and striving to make a difference in the community. With the help of our undergraduate chapters, our colonies, and our Rhoer Club we are dedicated to spreading the Sigma word.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., gives leadership, service and resources towards removing barriers and inequality so that all peoples of America, especially of our Black community, may develop their potential and exercise full citizenship. We aim to support human rights legislation, service to and support of grass roots individuals and community development activity, and through active participation in the programs of affiliate and other organizations. We are committed to work to improve the quality of our lives and the society we serve.

Our goal is to service the less advantaged areas in the Columbus metropolitan area. With special attention to uplifting the youth, the service and dedication of the elderly, and working with the physically challenged.
